Mission Statement
Black Girls Bend mission is to provide young minority girls with an outlet for daily stressors through teaching them yoga and meditation practices while offering mentorship.
Vision Statement
This nonprofit organization will provide mentorship services to young minority girls ages 10-18 by partnering with schools, recreation facilities, and colleges to provide workshops teaching them the practice of yoga and meditation as a coping measure to release stress from outside influences.
Core Values
Passion
“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.
-Oprah Winfrey
With excitement, enthusiasm, and an eagerness to learn we come together to practice yoga, and to sit in meditation with one another. This passion is what will motivate us to continue our path to self-discovery.
Patience
Practicing patience requires a discipline of mind and emotion. When we step foot on our mats, we are giving our body a fresh start. We are learning new things about ourselves and testing our boundaries.
“Trust the process. Your time is coming. Just do the work and the results will handle themselves.”
-Tony Gaskins
Community
“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”
-Coretta Scott King
Whenever we gather, it is a safe space. A place where we all lean on each other for support, encouragement, and motivation to push our bodies and to push our minds. Black Girls Bend is a community of all women of color who practice yoga and meditation, whether you are a beginner or advanced in your practice.
Mental/Physical Wellness
Mental and Physical Wellness is something that is not at the forefront of a child’s mind, but creating a foundation during adolescence is the goal of Black Girls Bend. Transitioning into adulthood is challenging and we want to help provide the youth with a structure set in place on how to relieve stress and focus on their mental and physical wellbeing. Creating this safe space for our girls to explore meditation and yoga, and create healthy habits is what Black Girls Bend strives to do.
“Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit. When one is free from physical disabilities and mental distractions, the gates of the soul open.”
-B.K.S Iyengar
